Pork to Stimulate the Economy

Poking around the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the bill that will save us all…

$650 million for the Digital-to-Analog Converter Box Program

$200 million for construction and improvements on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

$150 million for revitalization of the Smithsonian Institution

$50 million to the National Endowment for the Arts

$600 million to NASA with $400 million for climate change research

There’s plenty more in there. I’m not saying that I don’t want to see the Smithsonian fixed up a bit, or that we don’t all need digital television, but are all of these extra “goodies” actually going to help with the economy? Something tells me no.
